Kelowna is home to vibrant arts and entertainment options, from galleries to public lectures to performing arts and hockey games! There are a variety of museums and community organizations that offer opportunities to learn about the Syilx Okanagan people’s culture and language.
❄️ Big White is just 35 miles from Kelowna and offers world-class downhill skiing. Apex Mountain Resort is about 30 kilometers from Penticton and Silver Star is about 25 kilometers from Vernon. All are within driving distance and give residents and visitors to the Okanagan access to world-class downhill skiing and the Okanagan’s famous “champagne powder.” Telemark Nordic trails are among many snow shoe and cross-country trails in the area. Of course, curling is a national past-time in the winter months.
🏒 Ice hockey is part of the culture with recreational hockey, children’s learn-to-play, and various leagues. Kelowna is home to the Kelowna Rockets in the Western Hockey League. In the BC Hockey League, the West Kelowna Warriors and Vernon Vipers are local teams to cheer for! Even if you’re not a huge hockey fan, live hockey and community spirit make attending a game (or two) fun for all ages.
🛶 The Okanagan is home to many lakes and rivers, ideal for paddleboarding, canoeing, and kayaking. The Okanagan Paddle Trail is a good starter for inspiration. Hiking trails of all levels abound. Regional and Provincial Parks are free for day visits and offer plentiful options for overnight camping.
🌳 Kelowna Parks and Recreation offers a variety of activities, lessons, and leagues for children, teens, adults, and accessible programs for people of all ages.🐕 Dog parks and dog beaches are plentiful throughout the region. Dogs are welcome on many restaurant patios with outdoor dining throughout the spring, summer, and fall months.
